2. The currency of HongKong is a silver dollar currency, the exchange value of the dollar with sterling varying with the price of silver. sterling are paid to officers actually serving in HongKong

The salaries fixed in at a rate of conversion fixed by the Government. This rate is now 2/- to the dollar, but is liable to alteration. In view, however, of the fluctuation of the exchange value of the dollar, a temporary exchange allowance is payable, varying from nil when the exchange value is 4/4d or over, to 20% of salary when exchange is at or below 2/64.

3. It is to be understood that your engagement is in the first instance for not more than three years from the date of your arrival in the Colony, and that, if it is established to the satisfaction of the Governor that you
